I got a set of Prismacolour coloured pencils and tried shading with them....*dies* God they were wonderful. I wish they didn't cost a dollar an inch, essentially. All that beautiful shading is caused by wax essentially falling out of the pencil and onto the paper. I've never seen pencils shrink that fast. Ah well.
